WavGrind CEO LUKE DISCUSSES HIS JOURNEY IN MUSIC PRODUCTION

The Westleaf

What's up Leafers? Welcome to the latest edition of On the Rise where we interview upcoming hip hop talent. Today's guest is producer and entrepreneur, Luke, of wavgrind.com. Luke reps Sydney, Australia and he has big plans for the future. Luke's company provides thousands of royalty free samples for producers and artists. WavGrind has worked with big names such as Pressa, Lil Gotit, and Moneybagg Yo. Luke's definitely been making waves in the music industry so we had to tap in with him. Check out the interview below.

Westleaf Staff: What's up, Luke? Nice to meet you. When did you start making music?

Luke: I started producing music when I was 15 in high school. I started producing EDM-style tracks but then moved my focus to hip-hop and R&B as my taste in music changed. I used some of the music theory I learned from playing guitar, and my passion for music to produce a lot of music for a lot of different artists and producers.

In the past few years, the WavGrind team and I have had the opportunity to work with and produce for Kap G, Lil Gotit, Pressa, Smookey Margielaa, Houdini, Lakeyah, Moneybagg Yo, Dj Drama, and more!

Westleaf Staff: That's one heck of a list! Congrats! What city do you represent?

Luke: Sydney, Australia.

Westleaf Staff: Shout out to Sydney! So how did you create your company's name?

Luke: WavGrind is the name of our production group. Wav is an audio format, and we love working with hard-working producers who are passionate and hardworking, hence the "grind".

Westleaf Staff: Nice. It fits! So how did your early life shape your interest in music?

Luke: As I mentioned earlier, I did have a background in playing instruments before I started producing music. I played guitar for 5 years and had a little experience playing piano and the drums. This sparked my passion for creating music.

Westleaf Staff: Dope! So who is your biggest Musical influence?

Luke: Metro Boomin, Nick Mira, Murda Beatz, and Wondagurl were my main inspirations in the hip-hop space. I really liked their music and learned a lot from their production style.

Westleaf Staff: Nice. Those are some legends! Next question! What's been the defining moment in your music career thus far?

Luke: I'd say my favorite moment was when I decided to start wavgrind.com

I've been able to supply over 100,000 producers with high-quality royalty-free samples. I've also worked closely with over 25 producers on projects and products, 5 of whom are working with me each and every week. It's been very rewarding to create a lot of jobs in the producer industry.

Westleaf Staff: Wow! That's super dope. Congrats on your success.

What makes you a unique producer?

Luke: I work with a lot of talented musicians and producers on all of my projects, so they have an authentic and realistic sound. There's a lot of ways to create guitar, piano and vocal melodies without actually creating them live, but I've liked using a combination of both live and processed sounds.

This kind of sampling helps bring our music to life and helps us stand out.

Westleaf Staff: You're definitely standing out! Keep up the good work! So what does art mean to you?

Luke: Art and music are each person's way of expressing themselves. I think that it's a very powerful medium for expressing feelings and emotions.

Westleaf Staff: True. Where do you see your music career going over the next few years?

Luke: We hope to continue to grow and reach more producers. I also plan on working with some connections I have in the music industry, and end up producing some songs for talented artists.

Westleaf Staff: Dope. I respect the vision! Before we go, describe music in three words.

Luke: Art, passion, life.
