PA RAPPER BUTTA LUCIANO IS ON THE RISE

The Westleaf

What's up Leafers? Welcome to the latest edition of On the Rise where we interview upcoming hip hop talent. Today's guest is rapper, Butta Luciano. Butta reps Coatsville, PA. His sound is gritty and melodic similar to the contemporary East Coast style. Butta's been making waves with his sound so we had to tap in with him. Checkout the interview below.

Westleaf Staff: What's up, Butta. Your sound is dope. When did you start making music?

BUTTA: I started making music over 10 years ago but I didn’t see any real progress until 2018. I’ve been consistently dropping music for years… a lot of people look at me and automatically assume all these interviews and the intention that I’m getting just came overnight. The reality is that I’ve been working my ass off for everything coming my way. There’s no hand outs when it comes to me… I don’t have no Big homies to put money behind me like a lot of artist do. I have the same 24 hours just like everyone else, I just tend to utilize mine a little better.

Westleaf Staff: That's what's up. What city do you represent?

BUTTA: Coatesville, Pennsylvania, The Steel City!

Westleaf Staff: Shoutout to your Coatesville! So how did you create your stage name?

BUTTA: I’ve had several different stage names lol, but Butta Luciano came from my nickname in my City. A lot of people call me “Joe Butta” but I had to change that because I wanted something more serious but not too crazy. So I got rid of the “Joe” and Just went with “Butta”. Luciano means the “Light”. The two together just sounded good so it stuck.

Westleaf Staff: Dope! I like the name. So how did your early life shape your interest in music?

BUTTA: I got into music young but I definitely got it from my dad. I’ve always had an ear for good music. I started off listening to oldies like the Temptations, Contemporary Jazz, Lyrical hip hop like Big L and Common and the list goes on. I also got shaped from life experiences and that alone helps me write the majority of my music. I feel as though music is better when you have a story behind it.

Westleaf Staff: That's cool! You named some legends! So who is your biggest Musical influence?

BUTTA: I have a lot of musical influences to be honest. I don’t look up to anybody except for Jesus Christ himself but if I had to decide between my biggest musical influences I’m going to have to say Money Man. He is an artist who is independent and makes a living from his music and still has a tremendous Fanbase. He has fame but also he is not noticed or even heard about from a lot of people but to still be able to grind like he does is Legendary. That’s my influence.

Westleaf Staff: Nice. Definitely respect MoneyMan's hustle! Next question! What's been the defining moment in your music career thus far?

BUTTA: To be honest I haven’t really had a single defining moment because the ride is definitely been a good journey through the ups and the downs. But my defining moment was having my mixtape broadcasted to the world live on a billboard in Times Square, New York City. That was major to me because I am the only artist from my city to make that happen… and with that kind of exposure it made my numbers go up.

Westleaf Staff: Congrats on that Time Square placement. That's major!

What makes you a unique artist?

BUTTA: I feel like my delivery and everything I speak about is different. I speak for the ones who are afraid to speak up… Voice of the corner boys as I like to say… I can give you any mood that you need to be in whether you’re happy, sad, or mad I have a song for that.

Westleaf Staff: That's real! So what does art mean to you?

BUTTA: To me art means creativity… uniqueness… dedication.

Westleaf Staff: Facts! Where do you see your music career going over the next few years?

BUTTA: At this rate I’m just going with the flow. It’s been going good so far, with a lot of ups and downs but it’s worth it in the end. I pray I’m doing hella shows and getting my name out more in a few years. Just staying consistent with all I do.

Westleaf Staff: It's already done! Before we go, describe music in three words.

BUTTA: Creativity, uniqueness, and dedication.
