Westleaf Staff

What's up Leafers? Welcome to the latest edition of On the Rise where we interview upcoming hip hop talent. Today's guest is hip hop artist, Miles Prime. Prime is an artist straight out of Phoenix, Arizona where it's hot but the rhymes are hotter. With a conscious flow and well-calculated bars, Prime paints vivid pictures of the world he lives in. When listening to Prime it's clear to see he's an artist with depth who has all the makings of not just a music star but someone who has the capacity to change the world . But enough from us, we recently linked up with Prime to discuss his life and musical roots. Check out the interview below.

Westleaf Staff: What's up Prime? We love your sound. When did you start making music?

Miles Prime: I started writing and rapping at the age of 6. The first time I started actually recording music, I was around 14 years old.

Westleaf Staff: That's super early. What city do you represent?

Miles Prime: Phoenix, AZ

Westleaf Staff: How did you create your stage name?

Miles Prime: First off my last name is Miles, but when I was younger I was a big transformer fan. My favorite was Optimus because he’s supposedly the best and coolest one ya know. So I took my last name and merged it with Optimus Prime.

Westleaf Staff: Ha! I love transformers too. The name is fitting for you. So how did your early life shape your interest in music?

Miles Prime: It shaped my interest tremendously. My whole family was involved in music - my mom was a rapper herself and is the author behind most of my early raps. Both my aunt and uncle were producers as well. It was only a matter of time before I got involved myself.

Westleaf Staff: It's dope to see you continuing that legacy. Salute. Who is your biggest Musical influence?

Miles Prime: Michael Jackson hands down!

Westleaf Staff: Ha. I saw the moves in your Apple of My Eye video. What has been the defining moment in your music career?

Miles Prime: I’d say dropping my debut album “Miles Ahead” in 2021. I have multiple bodies of work however it comes with a different feeling and meaning when it’s a debut album. Not a mixtape or an EP but an album. It was a special moment for me and it was received well which made it that much better.

Westleaf Staff: What makes you a unique artist?

Miles Prime: The fact that I could stay true to myself while adapting to any sound. Just always 100% unapologetically myself at all times but still able to speak truth and give different flavors depending on the occasion. Oh yeah, the bars are also different on this side as well.

Westleaf Staff: What does art mean to you?

Miles Prime: Expression. Simple as that.

Westleaf Staff: Where do you see your music career going over the next few years?

Miles Prime: Grammy-nominated. World renowned. Everybody singing my shit.

Westleaf Staff: Describe music in three words.

Miles Prime: Beautiful. Distinct . Melodious.
