Westleaf Staff

What's up Leafers? Welcome to the latest edition of On the Rise where we interview upcoming hip hop talent. Today's guest is rap artist, Vellz Piffy. Vellz is straight out of Brooklyn, New York. Vellz' sound is raw and gritty similar to many of the great MC'S hailing from New York. Vellz has been touring around the country making waves with his sound. We noticed his movement so we had to tap in. Check out the interview below.

Westleaf Staff: What's up, Vellz? Welcome to On the Rise. Let's get straight to it. When did you start making music?

Vellz: Around the age of 13 or 14. Seriously 20 something.

Westleaf Staff: Cool! That's dope! What city do you represent?

Vellz: Brooklyn, New York.

Westleaf Staff: Shout out to Brooklyn! There's some amazing talent coming out of Brooklyn right now. So how did you create your stage name?

Vellz: Me and my bro, NEMO P, we are the Piffy Boyz.

Westleaf Staff: Nice. That's super cool. So how did your early life shape your interest in music?

Vellz: I grew up hearing my brother make beats. I've always wanted to be able to influence sound in the way that he did.

Westleaf Staff: Thats's dope! It's a family thing! So who is your biggest Musical influence?

Vellz: The greats: Biggie, Jay Z, 50-Cent, Jadakiss, Max B, French Montana, and Jim Jones. Basically New York hip hop.

Westleaf Staff: Those are some legends. Next question! What's been the defining moment in your music career thus far?

Vellz: Delivering 2 albums in one year and becoming a business man. Being able to tour so my brand can grow. Touring indie is tough so every breakthrough moment when I’m on the road is defining for me.

Westleaf Staff: Wow! That's dope. Congrats on the tour!

What makes you a unique artist?

Vellz: It’s no cadence like mine in NYC. New York is full of drill right now. I’m Brooklyn born and raised with my own unique sound. It'll it take them a minute to catch on but once they do it’ll be infectious.

Westleaf Staff: I love that answer. They will catch on for sure! So what does art mean to you?

Vellz: Art is everything. I’m always ready to create.

Westleaf Staff: True! Where do you see your music career going over the next few years?

Vellz: I see it going in an upward direction. I’m going to definitely expand my brand and imprint more.

Westleaf Staff: Dope! I see that happening for you. I wish you much success! Before we go, describe music in three words.

Vellz: Gritty, smooth, pressure.
