What's up Leafers? Welcome to the latest edition of On the Rise where we interview upcoming hip hop talent. Today's guest is hip hop artist, WorldWide Lau. Lau has a gritty east coast style with hard hitting bars and moving content. Lau's style is aggressive yet his lyrics speak of progress and overcoming the struggle. When listening to Lau one can hear both triumph and pain in his voice. Lau's rhyming style and unique look has catapulted him to the top of the indie radar. He has a sizable and engaged following across social platforms so we had to catch up with him to see what the hype was about! He also has an EP "Growin Pains" dropping on May 1st. Check out the interview below.

Westleaf Staff: What's up Lau? Thanks for checking in with us! Your vibe is dope. When did you start making music?

WorldWide Lau: I started making music at age 10 on a boom box but I didn’t start taking it serious and releasing music until age 16.

Westleaf Staff: Wow. That's super early. So how did your early life shape your interest in music?

WorldWide Lau: My mom and sister were into music a lot , my sister was a singer and it made me want to be a rapper. We created music together and traveled performing together. Then I decided to take it serious and create a career for myself.

Westleaf Staff: It's cool to see music runs in your family. Salute. Who is your biggest Musical influence?

WorldWide Lau: My biggest music influence is 50 cent.

Westleaf Staff: That's not a bad choice. What has been the defining moment in your music career?

WorldWide Lau: Touring in the United Kingdom.

Westleaf Staff: Ha! We know about that UK Drill. I'm sure you stood out over there. What makes you a unique artist?

WorldWide Lau: I’m more than just an artist, I’m a self taught engineer , videographer , artist manager, consultant, and much more. I have many qualities that most rappers don’t.

Westleaf Staff: Dope. What does art mean to you?

WorldWide Lau: Art is a form of expression. It means a lot to me because it’s one of the only ways many people know to cope with their struggles. I use music as an outlet to release stress. Music is therapeutic.

Westleaf Staff: Describe music in three words.

WorldWide Lau: MUSIC IS LIFE.
