HIP HOP ARTIST BABYSLITS IS ON THE RISE

Westleaf Staff

What's up Leafers? Welcome to the latest edition of On the Rise where we interview upcoming hip hop talent. Today's guest is hip hop artist, Babyslits. Slits is an artist out of New York City. His style is futuristic, gritty, and wavy. We can definitely see him on the same stage with UZI or Travis Scott. Some of his early musical influences include Lil Wayne, Kanye West, and G-Unit. If Slits keeps up the dope work he'll surely be making waves this year. But enough from us, we recently linked up with Babyslits to discuss his life and musical roots. Check out the interview below.

Westleaf Staff: What's up Slits? Thanks for linking with us. Let's get right to it. When did you start making music?

Babyslits: It's BabySlits aka aceyxngcxspxr/yxngsex. I started making music seriously in June 2021, but music has been a part of my life since i was a kid.

Westleaf Staff: That's dope. So you grew up with it. Nice. What city do you represent?

Babyslits: I rep Syracuse, NY.

Westleaf Staff: Nice. Everybody is coming out of NY right now. How did you create your stage name?

Babyslits: My nickname was Ace. I went by aceyxngcxspxr (Ace Young Casper) wasn’t really into the name though. My producer and I were cutting ecstasy lines one night in the studio and I said we're raking Babyslits and he said that'd be a sick name, and so I was born.

Westleaf Staff: That's dope. Definitely a unique way to come up with your name! It's super creative. So how did your early life shape your interest in music?

Babyslits: My father was a dj/chef and on the nights after he would cook I would be at the restaurant/bar where he'd perform for the late night crowd. That experience made me want to be a performer.

Westleaf Staff: Who is your biggest Musical influence?

Babyslits: Lil Wayne, Kanye West, G Unit, Beastie Boys, Amy Winehouse, and Nirvana were some of my early musical influences.

Westleaf Staff: That's a lit line up. You've got taste! So what's been the defining moment in your career thus far?

Babyslits: Leaving my hometown and moving to the city and fully submerging myself in my music without any help.

Westleaf Staff: Facts! You're actually making moves. Salute! What makes you a unique artist?

Babyslits: I actually live what I say and I don't have to prove it because my actions do, and like Kanye, I suffer from bipolar disorder which I purposely don't medicate to keep my creative focus.

Westleaf Staff: That's real. Glad to see you're living authentically. That's needed in the game. What does art mean to you?

Babyslits: Everything, life is art, from sounds of taxis, to waterfalls, graffiti murals, paintings from Picasso, a woman joyfully crying, a soldier back from war, fruit in a bowl. So simple yet so complicated, art is the most powerful thing humans can create to show off individualism.

Westleaf Staff: Facts! Well said. Where do you see your music career going over the next few years?

Babyslits: I see myself being a niche micro celebrity in the next 2 years. I have the potential.

Westleaf Staff: Respect! Describe music in three words.

Babyslits: Life is sound.
