The Westleaf

What's up Leafers? Welcome to the latest edition of On the Rise where we interview upcoming hip hop talent. Today's guest is hip hop artist, Asono. Asono is an artist straight out of Greenville. Asono's music sounds like a mix between Nav and Travis Scott. It's definitely a new and uniquely crafted style. His flow is melodic and gritty at the same time which is a testament to his versatility. We can definitely see crowds vibing to his music at festivals like Coachella or Rolling Loud. Asono also has a mysterious persona which heightens the anticipation for new fans who haven't heard his sound. We've been wanting to catch up with him for a while and we finally locked in an interview where we discuss his musical origins and unique style. Check out the interview below.

Westleaf Staff: What's up Asono? We love your sound. When did you start making music?

Asono: I started making music at 12 but I really took it seriously when I turned 16.

Westleaf Staff: Dope! 12 is early. What city do you represent?

Asono: Greenville.

Westleaf Staff: Cool! Shout out to Greenville! So how did you create your stage name?

Asono: Thought outside the box.

Westleaf Staff: Nice. Always have to think different! How did your early life shape your interest in music?

Asono: I used to always keep a pair of headphones in my ears all day listening to music. I was influenced by so many old and new school artists. But most of my family also did things like play instruments so they kinda lead me to my own thing.

Westleaf Staff: That's dope. Who is your biggest Musical influence?

Asono: Prince.

Westleaf Staff: Prince is a legend! Good choice ha! So what's been the defining moment in your music career thus far?

Asono: When I first hit the stage and got to perform. When I saw people actually liking my sound that’s how I knew I was moving in the right direction.

Westleaf Staff: Nice. So what makes you a unique artist?

Asono: I’m not scared to go to that void and try out new things. I always been versatile with sounds and melodies.

Westleaf Staff: Nice. I can hear the versatility in your sound. You're super talented. What does art mean to you?

Asono: Art to me is like a creative process, it takes time to perfect it.

Westleaf Staff: Facts. True. Where do you see your music career going over the next few years?

Asono: To be able to tour all over and live comfortable making music. Also I wanna build up my clothing line to bigger heights.

Westleaf Staff: It's already done my brother! You got this! Before you go, describe music in three words for us.

Asono: Soulful, meaningful, beautiful.
