What's up Leafers? Welcome to the latest edition of On the Rise where we interview upcoming hip hop talent. Today's guest is rapper, Tai 4 Peace. Tai reps Winston Salem and Atlanta, Georgia. Tai's musical influences span from Kanye West to Tyler the Creator.The Atlanta based MC is making moves in his town so we had to tap in with him! Check out the interview below.
Westleaf Staff: What's up, Tai? Your sound is dope. When did you start making music?
TAI 4 PEACE: Around 2017.
Westleaf Staff: That's dope! What city do you represent?
TAI 4 PEACE: Winston, Salem, North Carolina.
Westleaf Staff: Shoutout to Winston, Salem. So how did you create your stage name?
TAI 4 PEACE: My stage name tai4peace is a play on the city I was born in (Winston-Salem, NC). I was nicknamed "Trey4" when I stayed in Atlanta on the West Side in zone 4, and peace is for my peaceful pacifist nature hence TAI(TAY) FOR(4) PEACE. ALSO TAI IS PRONOUNCED TAY SPELLED AS "TAI".
Westleaf Staff: I like that your name has meaning . So how did your early life shape your interest in music?
TAI 4 PEACE: i grew up listening to all kinds of music R&B, Jazz, House, Rap, Hip-Hop, and Alternative. Growing up i felt music was something that gave society rythm no matter what genre. Also that music is something you can never get away from.
Westleaf Staff: So who is your biggest Musical influence?
TAI 4 PEACE: As far as hip hop I would say Kanye West, Tyler the Creator, Young Thug, Tray deee, Dj Quik, and Duwap Kaine to be honest. He is massively underrated. My rnb/soul influences are the Isley Brothers, Kool and the Gang, Parliament, Frank Ocean, and Thundercat. i feel the most connected when i listen to these guys.
Westleaf Staff: Dope! Those are some legends! What's been the defining moment in your music career thus far?
TAI 4 PEACE: None so far I'm starting over as tai4peace hoping for the best.
Westleaf Staff: So cool! It's coming! So what makes you a unique artist?
TAI 4 PEACE: What makes me a unique artist in my mind is I'm willing to push boundaries most artist wouldn't and i really mean that. i feel being one dimensional can be the biggest downfall to an artist. I want to make multi genre music one day. Another thing is I have my own sound, inspiration is important but I don't want to be inspired to the point where people would be like "Oh he sound like so and so and this that. I'm not interested in those type of comparisons.
Westleaf Staff: Dope! Much respect. So what does art mean to you?
TAI 4 PEACE: I feel that art is something that is unique to every person and every individual. It is something that you can’t necessarily judge and say oh, this is perfect because art is subjective at the end of the day, it's when you look at something and you, you may see it as perfect. Someone else may not see it as perfect, and it could be the opposite, I feel that art is also one of the best ways of telling how someone’s soul is if it’s harmonious or not and I feel that art is also the best expression of one’s true mental mind.
Westleaf Staff: That's deep! Where do you see your music career going over the next few years?
TAI 4 PEACE: Hopefully to where I don't have to work a 9-5 in a manufacturing environment and hopefully where i can fulfill my biggest dreams.
