Westleaf Staff

What's up Leafers? Welcome to the latest edition of On the Rise where we interview upcoming hip hop talent. Today's guest is artist, 2 Degrees. 2 Degrees is an MC straight out of Phenix City, Alabama. His style is southern and gritty similar to Gucci Mane or Future. 2 Degrees is also unique because he actually has 2 Degrees which influenced his name choice and the intelligence in his bars. We can definitely see him performing on stages such as Rolling Loud or Coachella. The Alabama based MC has been on our radar for a while so we had to tap in with him! Check out the interview below.

Westleaf Staff: What's up, 2? Your sound is dope. When did you start making music?

2 Degrees: 2015, my first track actually was a diss track about my coaches at Purdue. I should have released it.

Westleaf Staff: That's wild! What city do you represent?

2 Degrees: Phenix City, Alabama.

Westleaf Staff: Shout out to Alabama. So how did you create your stage name?

2 Degrees: I actually have my Master's. Wanted to empower intelligence in the black community, so I decided to go with 2 Degrees.

Westleaf Staff: That's a dope name. And it has a purpose! So how did your early life shape your interest in music?

2 Degrees: Growing up I listened to all the greats! I grew up in the Trap Music Era, listening to TI, Gucci, 2 Chainz, Jeezy, the list goes on & on! Lil Wayne inspired me most to become the rapper I am today. I used to learn new words by listening to his music. It was amazing, I’ve always wanted to bring that educational component to my music.

Westleaf Staff: Dope! That's an inspiring. So who is your biggest Musical influence?

2 Degrees: I’d have to say Drake is my biggest musical influence. I admire his versatility. J Cole I relate to most as a former athlete. Although, Gucci Mane’s legendary tone & delivery comes out often in my music.

Westleaf Staff: Dope choice! We love Drake! What's been the defining moment in your music career thus far?

2 Degrees: When the pandemic hit in 2020 I noticed a shift in my career. I had more time to focus on my craft. During that time I dropped a couple of singles & visuals (Time & Corona Can’t Touch Me) that now have over 10K views on YouTube. I’ve been building momentum ever since.

Westleaf Staff: That's dope! Congrats on that momentum. So what makes you a unique artist?

2 Degree: I’m a CEO first. I stick to my roots & I know what I represent. My ideas come from within. I don’t have to rely on inspiration from others.

Westleaf Staff: Dope! So what does art mean to you?

2 Degrees: Art is everything, art contributes to our human needs and creativity keeps you alive.

Westleaf Staff: True! That's deep! Where do you see your music career going over the next few years?

2 Degrees: I see myself becoming a household name, the talent is there, music is there, now I’m just working on branding.

Westleaf Staff: I wish you much success! Before we go, describe music in three words.

2 Degrees: Attention-Grabbing, Inspiring, Motivational.
